Barking up the Right Tree — Top Ten Dog Theme Puzzles

Dog themed puzzles week:

This week we’re featuring puzzles that include man’s best friend! We reviewed Falcon’s “Puppies and Kittens” by Steve Read (review here) and “Dogs on a Bench” by Interlitho Licensing (review here). Now it’s time for our top picks of the dog puzzles available at Puzzle Warehouse.

Okay. Let’s get started.

16. “The World of Dogs” by Ernest Brown, White Mountain (1000 pieces)

This is a classic White Mountain “edutainment” puzzle that provides some info on dog breeds as well as being a challenging puzzle. The amount of white, brown, and black dog fur in this one will make it tricky to assemble.  (Click on the images below to see the puzzle on Puzzle Warehouse.)

15. “Garden Pals” by Howard Robinson, Sunsout (500 pieces)

Howard Robinson does a lot of dog and cat themed puzzles. I love the variety of texture and color in this one and the white hatch fence. See more Howard Robinson puzzles here.  (Click on the images below to see the puzzle on Puzzle Warehouse.)

 14. “Dog Quotes”, Cobble Hill (1000 pieces)

This collage puzzle is a nice mix of dogs and text. The different colored fonts make assembly more interesting.   (Click on the images below to see the puzzle on Puzzle Warehouse.)

13. “Dogspirations”, Willow Creek Press (1000 pieces)

I really like the chalkboard affect and the large colored fonts on this one.   (Click on the images below to see the puzzle on Puzzle Warehouse.)

12. “Shared Moments”, Educa (1000 pieces)

This is a fun collage of dog photos.   (Click on the images below to see the puzzle on Puzzle Warehouse.)

11. “Waiting for a Walk” by Giordano Studios, Sunsout (800 pieces)

I’m glad to be able to include a shaped puzzle on this list. Looks interesting to assemble with that highly irregular border.   (Click on the images below to see the puzzle on Puzzle Warehouse.)

10. “Baby It’s Cold Outside”, New York Puzzle Company (1000 pieces)

The great comic art style and lots of unique colors and textures makes this puzzle a winner.   (Click on the images below to see the puzzles on Puzzle Warehouse.)

9. “Bubbles” and “Summer School” by James Merger, Sunsout (1000 and 300 pieces)

I like James Merger’s Americana/nature scenes. You can take your pick of these two from Sunsout, depending on your preferred piece count. Both are wonderful illustrations with lots of color and detail.  (Click on the images below to see the puzzle on Puzzle Warehouse.)

8. “Puppies and Kittens” by Steve Read, Falcon (2×500 pieces)

This set gives you two 500 piece puzzles, both full of rich color and detail. I reviewed it this week.  (Click on the images below to see the puzzle on Puzzle Warehouse.)

7. “Christmas Puppies”, Eurographics (1000 pieces)

This wonderful collage style puzzle from Eurographics looks like a ton of fun to put together. Lots of referencing the box lid!  (Click on the images below to see the puzzle on Puzzle Warehouse.)

6. “Bedtime Battle” by Liz Goodrich Dillon —  Sunsout, 1000 pieces

This is a brand new Sunsout release and one of my favorite of their new January puzzles. It looks fun to assemble with all the quilt and wood textures. (Click on the image below to see the puzzle on Puzzle Warehouse.)

5. “Dogs on a Bench” by Interlitho Licensing —  Vermont Christmas Company, 1000 pieces

I love the softness of the art style and the bright colors. I reviewed it this week. (Click on the image below to see the puzzle on Puzzle Warehouse.)

4. “A Year of dogs” by Sandra Bergeron —  White Mountain, 550 pieces

I adore the borders within this puzzle–all the bright colors and seasonal patterns. I wish it came in a larger size too! (Click on the image below to see the puzzle on Puzzle Warehouse.)

3. “What If? #6 The Pet Parlour” —  Ravensburger, 1000 pieces

The What If series is super fun. Instead of assembling the box lid image, you assemble as “what if” take on the image. This is the only pet themed one in the series. (Click on the image below to see the puzzle on Puzzle Warehouse.)

2. “Pet Day” and “Front Porch Vet” by Susan Brabeau, Sunsout (1000 or 300 pieces)

These two wonderful Americana dog-themed puzzles from Susan Brabeau explore children’s love for man’s best friend. You can take your pick of size.   (Click on the images below to see the puzzle on Puzzle Warehouse.)

1. “A Dog’s Life” by Marino Degano —  Heye, 1000 pieces

I’m a big fan of Heye cartoon puzzles, and this hilarious dog puzzle by Degano has to be my top pick. There’s dozens of little jokes to find as you assemble this puzzle. See my review of “A Cat’s Life” here. (Click on the image below to see the puzzle on Puzzle Warehouse.)

That’s it for this count down. I hope you found something you like. Please feel free to suggest other inspirational puzzles in the comments.
