Publisher: White Mountain (US), published 2018 Title:  “The Curse of Blackwood Hall” by Pinkerton Road & Lena Pigareva, 1000 pieces pieces Finished size: 24″ x 30″ (1000 pieces) OUR RATING: 10/10 I loved the idea of this brand new puzzle from White Mountain. It sounded similar to “Find the Differences” puzzles where the puzzle you assemble has some changes from the box image. Only in this case, those changes add up to the solution to a murder mystery.  Get the full scoop on thisRead more

Review: “Santa’s Big Night” by RJ McDonald, White Mountain – 9/10

White Mountain’s “Santa’s Big Night” is a classic Christmas puzzle you’ll want to add to your permanent collection. The image is ideal for puzzling with five separate Santa scene vignettes. The colors are bright and cheerful, and the painted artwork couldn’t be more Christmassy. I especially loved the scene in the upper right with the snow-covered fur trees and the children playing in the snow. This is an easy-to-moderate puzzle that would be perfect to work with a group at Christmas, given the layout of the various story panels. The quality is quite good. I especially like White Mountain’s larger piece size and very flat, smooth finish. Highly recommended for everyone this holiday season!Read more

Review: “Autumn Traditions” by Terry Redlin, White Mountain 8.75/10

White Mountain’s “Autumn Traditions” by Terry Redlin is a beautiful and nostalgic fall-themed puzzle that comes in 1000 pieces and 300 pieces so you can choose your level of difficulty. The 300 piece version is easy and crops out some of the more difficult sky. The 1000 piece version is easy around the country store and pumpkin patch, but moderate-to-difficult for the sky portion. The colors are very pretty and brighter than many Redlin puzzles. The quality is very good. I especially like White Mountain’s larger piece size and very flat, smooth finish. This would be a lovely puzzle to frame. Recommended!Read more

Review: “Perennials”, White Mountain – 9/10

White Mountain’s “Perennials” is a gorgeous puzzle that’s super fun to assemble. The image has some educational value in that it shows the names of the various perennial flowers. I particularly enjoyed the vibrant colors and how different textures made flowers easy to identify even when they had the same colors as other flowers. The main body of the scene is so packed full of unique flowers that there’s very little left-over green background to do in the end, making the puzzle very enjoyable all the way through. The White Mountain quality is good with larger pieces and a random cut. The final puzzle has a flat, smooth finish that allows you to see the art rather than the jigsaw cut. The finish is glossy, so there is some glare under bright lights. Highly recommended!Read more

Review: “Tapestry Cat” by Lewis T. Johnson, White Mountain — 9/10

White Mountain’s “Tapestry Cat” is a fun and challenging puzzle with moderate difficulty. The image by artist Lewis T. Johnson has bright colors and a lovely hand-drawn art style. Big bold elements–such as the large border, the Morris-esque wallpaper background, the cat, and the floral bouquet inside the cat–make separate distinctive areas to assemble. Repeating elements within the border (like the blue diamonds) and within the floral bouquet (for example, white daisies) make the puzzle more challenging but never frustrating. The White Mountain quality is good with larger pieces and a random cut. The final puzzle has a flat, smooth finish that allows you to see the art rather than the jigsaw cut. The finish is glossy, so there is some glare under bright lights. Highly recommended!Read more

Review & Giveaway: “Winter Village” by Steve Crisp, White Mountain – 9.5/10

White Mountain’s “Winter Village” is one of my favorite puzzles so far in 2016. The snowy image by Steve Crisp is gorgeous and really hit the spot when I worked it during the hot summer months. Though this is a nighttime scene, the colors are bright and appealing. There’s a nice mix of detail and simpler areas where you can put the pieces together without referencing the box (like the sky and the bridge). I loved the large White Mountain piece size and the larger size of the final puzzle. The random cut is fun to piece together and the finish is very flat and smooth. This is an easy-to-moderate puzzle that is never frustrating. Highly recommended!Read more
